They say fortune favors the bold, but for one Prince George’s County man nicknamed "Romeo," it seems fortune also has a flair for the romantic.

After 30 years of playing the Maryland Lottery, Romeo’s love story with luck finally hit the jackpot when he won $50,000 on a Bonus Match 5 ticket.

The fateful ticket was purchased on Oct. 26 at Al’s Beer & Wine in Oxon Hill during one of Romeo’s many adventures as a self-proclaimed traveling ticket collector.

While his Pick 3 and Pick 5 tickets may have fizzled, the Bonus Match 5 turned out to be the Cinderella slipper he’d been searching for.

“When I scanned the ticket the next day, I couldn’t believe my eyes,” Romeo said, recalling the moment he realized he was $50,000 richer. “The screen read, ‘$50,000 winner.’”

True to his namesake, Romeo kept his cool.

No dramatic balcony speeches here — just a subtle poker face to keep the spotlight off his newfound fortune.

“I don’t think I’ll truly celebrate until the money is in my account,” he quipped.

The devoted dad plans to invest his winnings, buy a new car, and spoil his children this holiday season — because what’s a Romeo without a little generosity?

Even Al’s Beer & Wine, the Oxon Hill store that sold the winning ticket, shares in the fairy tale ending. They’ll receive a $500 bonus from the Maryland Lottery for their role in his happily-ever-after.

Whether it’s fate, fortune, or just plain good luck, one thing is certain: this Romeo’s heart has found its match in a life-changing windfall.
